Build your career strategy in 4 simple steps!

1. Edge - Stand out
2. Flow - Do what you love
3. Context - Find a place to flourish
4. Purpose - Give something to the world

EDGE

The first of the four dimensions to consider when making your career decisions is 'Edge'. Edge is how you stand out from others. Ask yourself: which characteristics are typical for who I am?

Maybe you distinguish yourself with an eye for beautiful design, perhaps you do with your laziness combined with creative streaks. Almost any feature can be an Edge. To ask the people around you how they think you stand out can prove very helpful.

Answer the questions below to sharpen your thoughts on Edge:

FLOW

The second dimension is 'Flow'. Flow can best be described as a state of effortless action. Think of an athlete that gets 'into the zone', or a jazz musician who gets 'into the groove'. When do you forget everything else and get into a state of Flow?

We are attracted to people that show Flow because they act spontaneously, are highly effective, and radiate charismatic power. If you can find flow in your job, you'll do your best work - effortlessly and with joy.

CONTEXT

In order to use your Edge and reach your Flow as often as possible try to define a matching Context where you can flourish. Context is about the environment you need to enable yourself and reach your full potential.

Do you thrive in a large or small company, when you're constantly with other people or alone, when you're working 6 days a week or only 4? In our experience, the right context is uncomfortable enough to grow, but comfortable enough to stay out of the panic zone.

The questions below are meant to help you narrow down possible job environments and define your desired Context. Try to be as specific as you can.

PURPOSE

It's time to zoom out at the bigger picture and look at your Purpose: what do you want to build during your life and ultimately leave behind? In other words, to define your Purpose means finding the set of higher goals that guide your actions in the long run.

Maybe it's your Purpose to be a good father, fight loneliness as a social problem, or be remembered for designing the city of the future. Purpose provides a sense of direction and strong intrinsic motivation. As the famous philosopher Nietzsche said: "He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how"
